The Long Walk, a project I put into motion with artist Stokley Towles as part of www.trailsproject.com, was designed as an experiential event where 40 people trekked for three days from Seattle to Snoqualmie Falls — walking out of the city and into the forest — using the Regional Trail System. Conceived of as an ”open source” event, our temporary collective of itinerant trail trampers  “engaged in poetic reciprocity” and create an interstitial culture during their three days together. We encouraged participants to view their experiences as art — so that the journey, instead of the means to the end, became the end in and of itself.
