In the Form of a Hummingbird

In The Form of a Hummingbird b/w Super Baby Tapir is a sound project with origins in poems I made up to pass the time while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail during the Wild Times project (www.wildtimesproject.com).

After returning to Seattle, I worked with musicians Andy Ayers and Lauren Wells (members of Black Giraffe) along with Don Ayers and Rob Hanlon to work them into full-fledged songs. I then crafted a limited number of “picture discs” where each record was cut one at a time by a needle scratching the sound vibrations into (recycled) Plexiglas.

In the form of a hummingbird was commissioned by Frye Art Museum and funded by the Frye Foundation as part of the exhibition Genius/21 Century/Seattle.
